Parents Night - Anxiety

Parenting teenagers today is not for the faint of heart.

The current challenges that kids face when it comes to anxiety and mental health can feel
overwhelming at times, for both kids and their parents. And yet the role of parents in the lives of
their sons and daughters remains clear: Parents are the best positioned to influence and shape
the hearts of their kids.

Parents are consistently present (or absent) as role models of healthy adulthood. Parents are
the voice that kids will hear in their hearts (for good or for evil) for the rest of their lives. Parents
carry the heavy responsibility of raising responsible adults.

For that reason, the Winkler Area Youth Leaders (WAYL) has invited Walt Mueller from the
Center for Parent/Youth Understanding to speak to parents on the topic of the rise in anxiety
and mental health issues that kids are facing these days.

“Parents have been clear to us, they want someone to offer ideas and solutions,” explains local
youth pastor Steve Zacharias. “We are constantly hearing about the struggles of this generation
and the pressure that they are under. What we really need is someone to come alongside
parents and offer real help, whether they are connected to a faith community or not.”
Walt Mueller speaks at hundreds of events across North America delivering insight,
understanding, and practical tools to help parents in their greatest responsibility -- raising the
next generation.

The event will happen on October 31 from 7 to 9 pm at Garden Valley Collegiate (736 Main
Street, WInkler, MB). Attendance to the event is free and seating is available on a first come,
first serve basis.
